The Centre

It is simply and fondly referred to as “The Centre”, partly because of its central location at 2828 Bathurst Street, but primarily because of the central role it plays in its participants’ lives.

Every Monday and Wednesday evening, a group of young men gather to enjoy some good food and good company within a healthy environment. They delight in this safehaven, a “judge-free” zone where they can relax with many amenities. The third floor suite is a freshly renovated space furnished with sport activities (pool and ping pong tables). The boys particularly enjoy the array of programs that have been designed to satisfy their budding interests, including self-defense training and a fully certified CPR course.

Rabbi Steinmetz and Joe Apter are the true champions of this noble cause. They are proud to host important members of our community who expertly address this special crowd on a wide variety of topics. Among others, they have been fortunate to hear from Rabbi Dovid Engel about Hakoras Hatov, Mr. Sruli Weinreb on matters of Shalom and Dr. Gary Dadoun regarding the importance of goal setting. In addition, Rabbi Elazar Breitowitz sat in for a special “Ask the Rabbi” meeting and guaranteed that no question went unanswered!

The success of The Centre has not allowed for complacency; in fact, it is the impetus for further expansion. Accredited courses are now being offered that assist these young men in their quest to earn a high school diploma. Other hobbies and interests are also being investigated as potential future workshops.
